What happened

On August 12, 2026, the board adopted Policy G.21 on artificial intelligence. Only approved AI tools may be used. Students in PreK-2 may not use AI chatbots or have AI accounts, students in grades 3-5 may use only AI built into their lessons, and students in grades 6-8 need a teacher's permission for each task.

Why it matters to families

Students may not turn in AI-written work as their own, and they must say when they used AI. Staff may not put student personal information into unapproved AI tools or let AI make big decisions about students, such as grades.

The evidence

Policy G.21 sets out the grade-band rules, the disclosure requirements and the banned uses, and it lists Brighton's adoption date as August 12, 2026. The August 12 minutes record the adoption.
