What happened

On August 12, 2026, the board adopted Policy F.54. Students may not use or have access to cell phones or other personal devices, such as smartwatches and earbuds, from arrival to dismissal, including in restrooms and on buses. Devices must be stored during the day.

Why it matters to families

This changes the school day for students and families. Exceptions cover health plans, IEP or 504 plans, administrator permission and homeless students. The school must set up a way for families to reach students during the day.

The evidence

Policy F.54 states the ban, the device definitions and the exceptions, and it lists Brighton's adoption date as August 12, 2026. The August 12 minutes record the adoption.
