What happened

The board adopted policy JFCM, which follows a new state law. Students may not use phones from arrival until dismissal. Staff said grades 6-12 would keep phones in lockers, but where phones go is still being worked out because not every student has a working locker. Students with diabetes may carry phones only under a medical plan.

Why it matters to families

This changes every school day for students and how parents can reach them. Families should watch for the final storage rules.

The evidence

In the July 20, 2026 special meeting recording, the board discusses JFCM, storage and the diabetes exception and votes to adopt the remaining state policy updates including JFCM.
