2026-27 budget cuts five teacher jobs and draws $6.9 million from savings

What happened
On July 15, 2026, the board adopted a $491.6 million budget across all funds. Much of it is state money to rebuild the high school and the bus facility. The day-to-day general fund draws $6.9 million from reserves, down 33% from last year. It adds two ESL teachers and other specialists but cuts five classroom teacher jobs.
Why it matters to families
Fewer classroom teachers can mean bigger classes. The district expects about 8,100 students, down about 1%, and says energy prices make its funding hard to predict.
The evidence
The FY2027 Annual Budget lists the new positions and the 'reduction of five classroom teachers'. It shows $6,899,810 in reserve support, an estimated enrollment of 8,100, and a $12.7 million rise in general fund revenue. The July 15 minutes record unanimous adoption of $491,629,929.
