Board does not adopt a school-day prayer and Bible-reading period

What happened
Texas Senate Bill 11 required every school board to take a record vote by March 1, 2026 on a resolution that would require a daily period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious texts on each campus. At its February 2026 meeting, no Deweyville trustee voted for the resolution, so it failed.
Why it matters to families
The school day will not include a set prayer and Bible-reading period. Before the vote the superintendent said students can already pray and read the Bible at any time and that there is an open Bible club.
The evidence
February 2026 meeting recording, item on the SB 11 resolution: the resolution text read aloud, the superintendent's explanation, the call for votes in favor and the chair's statement 'Motion failed.'
