What happened

The district's capital projects plan lists about $15.2 million of work over three years: $5.0 million in 2027, $5.4 million in 2028 and $4.8 million in 2029. It includes new Chesterton High School gym bleachers ($1.3 million), a high school chiller, new boilers at Bailly, Brummitt, Jackson and Liberty elementaries, and roofs and parking lots districtwide.

Why it matters to families

These repairs keep aging buildings running, but leaders say the operations budget cannot pay for all of them.

The evidence

The Capital Projects Plan 2027-2029 lists each project, school, dates and cost. The October 12 recording says the roughly $6.3 million in capital needs cannot all come from the $24 million operations fund.
