Board weighs a cap and lottery for out-of-district students
What happened
About 70% of East Nicolaus High students live outside the district. Staff reported 186 District of Choice and 33 inter-district transfer students this year. A draft resolution would cap each grade at about 90 students (up to 95), and use a lottery for open seats. Resolution 2627-IV was on the October 12 agenda.
Why it matters to families
Families outside the district depend on these seats, and the school's budget and programs depend on their enrollment. A tighter cap could change who gets in.
