Board hires Scott Cuckow as Walsenburg Jr/Sr High principal
What happened
On July 31, 2026 the board voted 7-0 to hire Scott Cuckow as principal of Walsenburg Jr/Sr High School. In May the board had voted down renewing the school's assistant principal; after community pushback it changed that posting into a principal job on June 18, and a search firm ran the search.
Why it matters to families
The principal leads the only middle and high school in the district. The change follows weeks of public disagreement over school leadership.
The evidence
Minutes item 6.3 "Approve to hire Scott Cuckow as Principal for Walsenburg Jr/Sr High School" carried 7-0. The May 11 minutes show the assistant principal renewal "does not carry"; the June 18 minutes show the posting change to principal.
