FY2027 school budget adopted
What happened
The School Committee unanimously approved the FY2027 Middletown school budget after a presentation by Superintendent William Niemeyer. The minutes record the vote and the chair's thanks to staff, but not the total or how it compares with the year before. Two months later the same committee laid off certified staff citing fiscal exigency.
Why it matters to families
This is the plan that pays for teachers, buses and buildings for the coming school year. The layoffs that followed in May are the clearest sign of what it did not cover.
The evidence
The March 19, 2026 approved minutes record item 3.4, the motion that the School Committee approve the FY2027 Middletown School Budget, the unanimous vote, and the superintendent's budget presentation. The budget document and its figures were not filed with the minutes, so the total is not established by the collected record.
