District news
Tentative teachers' contract heads to the Town Council
What happened
A special School Committee meeting was called to hold a collective bargaining work session in executive session and then vote on accepting a final tentative agreement for certified staff, and to send it to the Middletown Town Council for its consideration. A further joint executive session with the Town Council on bargaining with the teachers' union, NEAM, was scheduled for August 24. No minutes for either meeting have been filed, so it is not established that the agreement was accepted.
Why it matters to families
The teachers' contract is the largest commitment in any school budget, and it lands in the same year the district laid off certified staff for fiscal exigency.
