Trained non-nurse staff to cover student health needs on trips

What happened
On May 12, 2026, the board approved a $2-an-hour pay increase for trained staff who are not licensed nurses to support students with health needs on field trips and at other activities. The goal is to keep the licensed nurse on campus for other students.
Why it matters to families
Families of students with medical needs may want to know who will care for their child away from school. The district says these staff will be trained. A grant will also pay for software to manage students' individual health care plans.
The evidence
The May 12, 2026 meeting recording includes the recommendation for unlicensed assistive personnel support and the grant for health plan software.
