District news
Both middle school cafeterias to be renovated
What happened
The School Committee approved a bid to renovate the cafeterias at Birchwood and Ricci Middle Schools on a 7-0 vote, and separately approved a bid for picnic tables for an outdoor eating area at Birchwood Middle School and a composting services contract. A further outdoor lunch table bid was scheduled for a vote in August 2026.
Why it matters to families
The cafeteria is where every middle school student spends part of every day, and renovation work usually means a period of disruption before the new space opens.
