What happened

On June 15, 2026 the board adopted policy JICJ. It bars pre-K through grade 12 students from carrying or using cell phones, smartwatches and other connected devices from the first bell to dismissal, starting in 2026-27. Exceptions cover health plans, IEPs, 504 plans, language support and emergencies. Repeat violations can lead to detention or suspension.

Why it matters to families

This changes daily routines for every family. Students can no longer keep phones in pockets, and parents should plan on reaching students through the school office.
