New elementary school: site still undecided, referendum aimed for June 2027

What happened
RSU 1 is planning a state-funded school to replace Dike-Newell School, with Lavallee Brensinger as architect. In August the land behind Bath Middle School was ruled out, and the former Dike-Newell site on Wright Drive and another site are under study. Site selection is expected in late November or early December, and a straw poll is planned for early 2027. A referendum is targeted for June 2027 and occupancy for about 2029. A public meeting is set for December 7 at 6 p.m.
Why it matters to families
The site choice and any local share of the cost will go to voters in Bath and the other towns. Phippsburg families may also be asked whether Phippsburg Elementary should join the new school.
The evidence
August 24, 2026 minutes: 'the Middle School site is no longer on the table ... on schedule for a June 2027 referendum'. October 26, 2026 recording: 'December 7th right now at 6:00 ... a public meeting'.
