What happened

The FY26 financial statements show the general fund balance fell $1,580,716 during the year, to $2,569,016 on June 30, 2026. Unassigned fund balance is only about 0.6% of yearly general fund spending. A year earlier the balance was $4.15 million. In April the business manager warned the district could not count on using $1 million of savings again next year without more state aid.

Why it matters to families

With so little cushion, an unexpected cost such as special education tuition, fuel or out-of-district placements could lead to mid-year cuts or a larger tax increase next spring.

The evidence

FY26 financial statements (Sept. 12, 2026): 'unassigned fund balance ... represents 0.6% of total general fund expenditures', 'total fund balance decreased to $2,569,016', 'decreased by $1,580,716'. April 27, 2026 minutes: the business manager on the beginning balance.
