Who runs RSU 20, and how is it paid for?
RSU 20 serves Searsport and Stockton Springs in Waldo County. It runs Searsport Elementary, Searsport District Middle School and Searsport District High School. Superintendent Dr. Laura Miller started in 2025, and her contract now runs through 2028-29. The budget is approved at a district budget meeting each May and validated by a referendum in June. The cost is split between the two towns by property value. High school students can attend Waldo County Technical Center, whose future building plans are a major open question.

design stageAfter the bus garage was damaged in late 2025, a contractor estimated about $1.9 million to rebuild it at the same size. The board weighed $2-5 million bond options for broader repairs and in October 2026 hired EMC to do a concept design and formed a facilities committee.
