SFUSD reports high-school readiness rate below its 2028 goal

What happened
SFUSD reported that 59.2% of the Class of 2026 met California’s college-and-career-readiness indicator, down from 59.7% the year before. The rate remains below the district’s 70% goal for June 2028, and board leaders said the results, growth, and current strategy were not yet sufficient.
Why it matters to families
The indicator measures whether graduates meet state-defined college and career preparation pathways; it is distinct from whether they graduate. The report shows the district is not on track to meet its stated readiness target and has not yet identified a strategy the board considers sufficient.
The evidence
At the Oct. 27 monitoring workshop, the superintendent reported 59.2% for the Class of 2026 versus 59.7% for 2025; the stated district goal is to rise from 57.5% in June 2020 to 70% by June 2028. In the workshop’s closing assessment, the board chair said the report did not meet the goal’s vision, growth was insufficient, and a sufficient strategy was not yet in place; the chair said the board would begin revisiting its goals and guardrails in January.
