District news
San Lorenzo USD outlines possible staffing cuts for 2026–27
What happened
A district presentation outlined a potential $1.75 million in 2026–27 reductions, including 8.5 classroom-teacher positions, two secondary counselors and 2.5 campus safety officers; a separate list proposed $815,000 in cuts to 10 supplemental/concentration-funded positions. The presentation was for discussion only, and no reductions were adopted at that meeting.
Why it matters to families
If implemented, the proposed cuts could reduce classroom, counseling and campus-safety staffing, as well as other student and school support roles. Families and staff were told that a possible board action on a layoff resolution could follow later in February.
The evidence
The February 3, 2026 presentation labeled the item “Informational Item - Discussion.” It listed $1.75 million in overall recommended funding reductions, including 8.5 classroom-teacher FTE, two secondary counselor FTE, and 2.5 campus safety officer FTE, plus a separate $815,000 list of potential supplemental/concentration-funded reductions (two each in teacher-on-special-assignment, social worker, educational technology support, school administrative assistant, and library media technician roles). The slide listed possible Board action on a PKS resolution at the February 17 meeting; it did not establish that layoffs were approved.
