Committee signs a repayment agreement over the $767,000 athletic complex bill
What happened
On June 4, 2026 the School Committee voted 5-0 to approve a release and repayment agreement after months of dispute with the town over money spent finishing the Boyle Athletic Complex. At the November 13, 2025 joint session the vice-chair said the school department had already put in $2 million and had never agreed to a loan; at the January 14, 2026 session the town put the figure at $767,389.71 and the town manager proposed paying it down from the schools' capital reserve and from naming rights, while school members objected that capital money is needed for buildings.
Why it matters to families
Money used to settle the field bill is money not spent on classrooms and repairs, so how this is paid back matters to every school.
The evidence
The June 4, 2026 approved minutes record the 5-0 vote approving the release and repayment agreement; the January 14, 2026 joint work session minutes record the $767,389.71 figure, the town manager's proposal to use school capital reserve money and naming rights, and the school committee's objection that no loan was documented.
