A preschool provider told the board three of its seven classrooms were being cut; the decision appears nowhere in the record

What happened

At the May 26, 2026 meeting five speakers from a Trenton child and family development provider protested the reduction of three of its seven preschool classrooms. No resolution approving or reversing that reduction appears in any posted agenda or minutes for the year. Three weeks later, at a special meeting on June 15, the board spent two hours and sixteen minutes in closed session on a list of topics that included a review of preschool enrolment data reported to the state, and the minutes record no reopened public session and no action taken on returning.

Why it matters to families

Families in three preschool classrooms need to know whether their child has a seat in September, and the public record does not contain the decision that answers them. Enrolment was reviewed in closed session instead.

The evidence

The May minutes record that 'Ms. Rao expressed concerns relating to cuts in State cuts and reduction of three classrooms (out of seven).' The June closed-session resolution lists '3. Review ASSA – Preschool Enrollment Data', and the minutes then read 'EXECUTIVE SESSION CONVENED at 5:34 P.M. … EXECUTIVE SESSION CLOSED at 7:50 P.M.' with no further business.
