The emergency remote-learning plan adopted for 2026-27 is the district's 2022 pandemic document

What happened

On August 31, 2026 the board approved the district's emergency virtual or remote instruction plan for the new school year. The operative text is the plan written for the pandemic: it cites a state broadcast of August 17, 2022, guidance for the 2022-23 school year, a submission deadline of September 30, 2022, federal quarantine guidance, and describes buildings being maintained 'during the Covid shut down'. Its live provisions matter, because the plan is what converts closures into instructional days: after three consecutive closed days the district must begin remote instruction to satisfy the 180-day requirement, attendance defaults to present pending submitted work, special-education evaluations pause, and meals are distributed weekly. In February 2026 Trenton used all three of its emergency closing days to snow and had to add a make-up day.

Why it matters to families

This is the document that decides what happens to your child's learning, attendance record and meals the next time school closes for a week. Adopting a four-year-old pandemic plan unchanged means nobody has checked whether its assumptions still hold.

The approved plan states: 'Should the district close for three consecutive days, the district will begin remote instruction to satisfy the 180-day requirement pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:7F-9', and elsewhere 'Facilities are maintained by the custodial staff during the Covid shut down', citing the 'NJDOE Broadcast - Aug. 17, 2022' and a deadline of 'By September 30, 2022'.
