What happened

The Board approved revisions routing complaints about discriminatory bias in instructional materials through the district’s uniform complaint process and adding a parent right to opt a student out of specific content. The changes also set standards for materials to be factually accurate and aligned with curriculum and professional standards.

Why it matters to families

Families now have a specified route to raise concerns about instructional materials and an explicit opt-out process for particular content.

The evidence

Document 137028, Nov. 4 minutes, records approval by a 5-0 vote of revisions to Board Policies 1312.2 and 1312.3. Document 96875, Oct. 7 item descriptions, details the complaint route, the parent opt-out provision, and the accuracy and standards language.
