What happened

The Board approved revisions clarifying that the district, parents, and students age 18 or older may request deletion of a student’s data from online services or applications. The accompanying rules clarify what counts as a student record and how former students can seek name or gender changes on their records.

Why it matters to families

The changes clarify family and adult-student options for managing data held by online services and correcting records after a student leaves school.

The evidence

Document 137028, Nov. 4 minutes, records approval by a 5-0 vote of revisions to Board Policies 5022 and 5125. Document 96875, Oct. 7 item descriptions, states the data-deletion right and the administrative-rule updates for student records and former students’ name or gender changes.
