District news

Bedford presents two draft start dates for the 2026–27 school year

Day-to-day

What happened

The January 28 board packet includes two working drafts of the district’s 2026–27 calendar; neither is identified as adopted. One draft starts school September 8, after Labor Day, while the other starts September 2, before Labor Day, and they schedule spring recess differently.

Why it matters to families

Families may need to plan childcare, travel, and back-to-school arrangements around the start date and school breaks; the packet shows those dates were still under consideration.

The evidence

The January 28 agenda packet contains Draft 1, labeled “Start after Labor Day,” with September 8 marked as the first day of school, and Draft 2, labeled “Before Labor Day; Week in April; Memorial Day Weekend,” with September 2 marked as the first day. Both documents are explicitly labeled drafts/working documents, not approved calendars. (Documents 134851 and 134852.)
