Bedford agenda outlines free school meals for all students in 2026–27

What happened
The Board’s July 22 agenda lists a school-lunch item stating that participating school food authorities must provide reimbursable meals at no cost to all students starting in 2026–27. It says New York will reimburse meal costs up to the combined state and federal rate for a free meal; the record is an agenda, not minutes confirming a Board vote.
Why it matters to families
If applied to Bedford’s meal program, students would not be charged for reimbursable school meals, changing the cost families pay. The agenda does not specify which meal services Bedford participates in or document a final vote.
The evidence
The 2026 organizational agenda’s recommended School Lunch item states that beginning in 2026–27, school food authorities participating in federal school lunch and/or breakfast programs are required to provide reimbursable meals free to all students, with state reimbursement up to the combined state and federal free-meal rate.
