How Brittan is paid for and who decides
Brittan Elementary School District runs one school, Brittan Elementary (TK-8), at the foot of the Sutter Buttes. Like most California districts, almost all of its money comes from the state's Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which pays a set amount per student based on attendance, plus extra for low-income students, English learners and foster youth. Because funding follows students, small drops in enrollment matter. A five-member elected Board of Trustees sets the budget and policy; Superintendent/Principal Heather Azevedo runs both the district and the school.
State formula money
The 2026-27 plan expects .12 million in revenue, .37 million of it from LCFF. About 00,000 of that is extra money for high-needs students.
Enrollment drives funding
Enrollment was 539 in 2024-25 and about 517-520 during 2025-26 and fall 2026.
One leader for district and school
Heather Azevedo is both superintendent and principal; Josh Abken is vice principal.
Elected board
Five trustees with staggered terms; an election is set for November 3, 2026.
Brittan's spending plan is close to balanced, and the 2024-25 audit was accepted by the board in February 2026. Falling test scores and higher suspensions are real concerns, but the district has written plans to respond to both.
