How is Eagle County School District paid for?

Colorado school-finance formula plus local mill levy overrides

Eagle County School District Re-50J serves most of Eagle County, Colorado (Eagle, Gypsum, Edwards, Avon and nearby towns) with 5,593 K-12 students in November 2026. Colorado funds districts per student through a formula that combines local property tax and state aid, so enrollment drives the budget. Voters can add local property tax through a mill levy override; a $10.1 million override (Issue 5B) was on the November 3, 2026 ballot. An elected board of education adopts the budget and hires the superintendent, Dr. KC Somers, who started July 1, 2026.

Enrollment

5,593 students on Nov 2, 2026: 82 below budget and 206 (3.6%) below October 2025.

State funding impact

The funded pupil count is 27 below budget, reducing expected state funding by about $255,000.

Issue 5B

$10.1 million a year from 2027 for pay, reading, writing and math, art, music, PE and mental health staff; press reports say it passed.

How override money may be used

A proposal sends 80% to employee pay and 20% to instruction and student support.

Certified election results and the board's final vote on the allocation are not in the collected record.
