What happened

The committee voted 9-0 on June 15 to adopt an elementary device policy. It says there should be no technology use during social times such as snack, recess, or play/free-choice time, with exceptions for students who need devices for accessibility, accommodations, or behavior plans.

Why it matters to families

Elementary students (who use school iPads in K-3 and Chromebooks in grades 4-5) will no longer get screen time for indoor recess or as a reward. The district will publish classroom technology guidelines.

The evidence

The revised policy text (JICJ-A) states the rule; the June 15 recording shows a 9-0 vote after members removed the phrase 'especially within elementary schools.'
