What happened

Starting in 2026-27, students may bring phones to school, but the phones must be turned off and kept in their lockers during the school day. If a phone is out, staff take it and the student faces progressive discipline. Parents can still message their children through ParentSquare.

Why it matters to families

This changes daily life for every student with a phone and follows a new Indiana law. In September, leaders said students were talking more in hallways and at lunch.

The evidence

In the July 27, 2026 recording, the superintendent answers a board member's question and explains the rule. The September 28, 2026 recording reports early feedback.
