Phones must stay off and put away all school day

Day-to-day

What happened

Starting this school year, students in Pre-K through grade 12 may not carry or use phones, smart watches or other connected devices from the first bell to dismissal. The board adopted policy JICJ on June 11, 2026, replacing the older phone policy (JFCK).

Why it matters to families

Students can no longer use phones at lunch, between classes or on breaks. A phone used against the rules can be held until a parent comes to school to pick it up, and repeat violations can lead to a parent meeting or discipline.

The evidence

Policy JICJ, effective 6/11/26, says devices must be powered off and stored before the starting bell and lists confiscation until a parent pickup as a consequence. June 11, 2026 minutes record the second-reading vote and removal of JFCK.
