Overnight trips for 4th and 5th grade may be dropped
What happened
On August 25, 2026 the director told the board the 4th and 5th grade overnight trips are not sustainable. Fewer than half of students went last year, and cost is a problem. He proposed doing more evening and weekend field trips instead. The board did not vote on a change.
Why it matters to families
Overnight trips have been part of this outdoor, place-based school. Replacing them would change what students in those grades do, and what families pay, starting this year.
The evidence
August 25, 2026 minutes, director's report: '4th and 5th grade trips – expressed concerns that those trips are not sustainable... less than half of the students attended the trips last year. Instead, bolster evening and weekend field trips.' In May a parent also said the trips are too expensive.
