Middle school phones locked away all day; fines at high school

Day-to-day

What happened

Student handbooks approved June 16, 2026 set phone rules. At Wendell Middle School phones go in a locked locker from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., with repeat violations escalating to in-school and then out-of-school suspension. The elementary bans phones, and the high school allows them only before school, at lunch and after school.

Why it matters to families

High school violations bring $10 and then $20 fines, and an unpaid fine means the phone stays in the office until the end of the year. The middle school handbook also says AI tools may be used only when a teacher permits it.

The evidence

WMS, WES and WHS 2026-27 Student Handbooks attached to the June 16, 2026 agenda; June minutes record handbook approval.
