Funding structure, how it compares to peers, and where major projects stand.

How Wendell schools are funded and governed

A roughly $10.9 million district relying mostly on state funding, with a small local levy and active building projects

Wendell School District #232 serves about 1,150 students in Gooding County, Idaho, at Wendell Elementary, Wendell Middle and Wendell High schools. A five-member Board of Trustees, elected by zone, meets on the third Tuesday of most months at 7 p.m. in the Wendell High School Library. Most general fund money comes from state base support and staff apportionment; voters also approve a supplemental levy.

State money dominates

Of $10.9 million in 2026-27 general fund revenue, about $5.56 million is state base support and $2.73 million is entitlement funding.

Supplemental levy

The budget counts on $245,000 a year from a voter-approved supplemental levy; the board certified 2026 levy election results in June.

Building projects

Saved facilities money of about $1.24 million is paying for a new high school parking lot, while the middle school chiller and the 1976 gym need major work.

Unplanned costs

The collapse of the Idaho School Benefit Trust left the district owing about $107,000.

Several key files, including the levy ballot language, levy results and February minutes, are scanned images that could not be read, so levy amounts and vote counts are not confirmed.
