What happened

The Oct. 15 agenda asks trustees to ratify an $8 million fifth amendment for Phase 3 of the Orangeview Junior High School modernization. That would raise total project costs, including contingencies and allowances, to no more than $22.96 million.

Why it matters to families

The proposed amendment is a substantial new increase beyond the earlier modernization ceiling of about $14.7 million, making the project’s latest cost growth important for families to track.

The evidence

Agenda item 13.2 says construction is underway, the previously approved work had a $14,294,232 guaranteed maximum price, and Amendment No. 5 would add $8 million for Phase 3. The amended project total including district contingencies and allowances would not exceed $22,955,141, funded through Measure K and/or other appropriate funds. The agenda recommends ratification; it does not establish the board’s vote.
