District news
New rule on health insurance costs for rehired retirees

What happened
On September 22, 2026 the board changed how the district pays state retirement surcharges for retired teachers it rehires. Current rehired employees keep their surcharges paid for now. Anyone hired after September 22 splits the surcharge 75% district and 25% employee, and the district pays $300 a month toward insurance.
Why it matters to families
The district relies on rehired retirees. This changes what new rehires will pay.
The evidence
The September 22, 2026 minutes record a 5-0 vote to "continue paying surcharges for current employees" and that "Any employee hired after 9/22/2026 the District will pay 75% surcharge and the employee pay 25% and the school will pay $300.00 per month on insurance." The text is from a scanned copy.
