Board rejects letting out-of-county students pay to attend

Day-to-day

What happened

On July 20, 2026 the board voted 3-2 not to change its admissions regulation (JEC-R) to let students who live outside King George County enroll by paying tuition. Members Rachel Scott and Cathy Hoover voted against keeping the current rule. A June draft had proposed $6,100 a year for Virginia students and $16,100 for out-of-state students.

Why it matters to families

Only county residents can attend King George schools, which affects families near the county line.

The evidence
