Middle school GSA club lawsuit settled

High-risk

What happened

Families sued the School Board, with help from the ACLU of Virginia, after the board refused to let a Gay-Straight Alliance club form at King George Middle School. At the October 12, 2026 meeting a parent said the club will now meet and the county will pay the families' attorney fees; Superintendent Jesse Boyd described it as a settlement in which 'nobody won.' In September the board adopted new student-club policy IGDA and regulation IGDA-R.2.

Why it matters to families

The settlement decides which student clubs can meet at the middle school and costs the division legal fees. The board has not publicly reported how much.

The evidence

October 12, 2026 minutes: a parent said 'we sued them with the help of the Virginia ACLU, and we won. The middle school GSA club will go forward and meet, and King George County will have to pay our attorney's fees.' Dr. Boyd: 'we came to an agreement. Nobody won.'
