Funding structure, how it compares to peers, and where major projects stand.
Who decides for Monte Vista schools
Monte Vista School District No. C-8 serves Monte Vista in Colorado's San Luis Valley through elementary, middle, high school, alternative and online programs. A five-member Board of Education sets policy, adopts the budget each June and hires the superintendent. Regular meetings are held on the second Monday of the month in the District Board Room at 59 North Broadway. Policies go through two or three public readings before final approval.
Seat filled by appointment
After a member resigned in June 2026, the board interviewed applicants and appointed Cade Johnson on October 13, 2026.
Large policy batch under review
Fall 2026 agendas carry revisions to restraint, immunization, class size, purchasing, food service and facility fee policies, plus a new charter school facilities policy.
Budget adopted in June
The June 15, 2026 agenda listed approval of the 2026-27 budget and a 2025-26 supplemental budget; the budget figures were not posted with the agenda.
Free school meals
The food service regulation says breakfast and lunch are free for all students under the federal Community Eligibility Provision.
Posted agendas list items only, without minutes or vote counts, so most policy changes here are proposals whose final outcome is not yet in the records.
