Class size limits set out in revised procedure
What happened
The board took up a class size procedure (IIB-R) that targets an average of 24 students per teacher, with maximums of 20 in kindergarten, 24 in grade 1, 25 in grade 2, 26 in grade 3 and 28 in grades 4 to 8. It was temporarily approved in August and listed for final approval October 13.
Why it matters to families
Class sizes are checked after the third week of school, and the procedure only encourages hiring aides when a class runs over, rather than requiring it.
