What happened

LCPS is considering changing elementary attendance boundaries in Eastern Loudoun, but the board made no decision at its Oct. 22 work session. The staff’s R6 option would shift six planning zones among Algonkian, Countryside, Horizon, Lowes Island, Potowmack and Sugarland elementary schools; a no-change option and a one-neighborhood alternative were also discussed.

Why it matters to families

Families in the affected areas could be assigned to a different elementary school if a boundary-change plan is later adopted. The options remain under consideration, so no student assignment has changed based on this meeting.

The evidence

Staff described R0 as changing no planning zones and R6 as changing six zones across six elementary schools. The public hearing and work session ended with the board saying there was much to consider; no plan was adopted. A board member also discussed a separate alternative that would move one neighborhood from Countryside to Algonkian.
