OUSD’s 2025–26 close shows a $91.5 million General Fund drawdown

What happened
OUSD’s 2025–26 unaudited close reported a $91.5 million drawdown in combined General Fund balances, leaving $170.1 million, including $32.3 million unrestricted. That is $16.4 million above the balance previously projected, but the District still contributed about $140.1 million to restricted programs, primarily special education.
Why it matters to families
These year-end actuals establish the starting balance for the 2026–27 budget and show both a better-than-projected cushion and substantial ongoing pressure on unrestricted funds. The report says $27.7 million is reserved for economic uncertainty and $4.2 million is assigned to future budget-balancing solutions; any budget adjustment is to come through the First Interim Report.
The evidence
The September 9, 2026 unaudited-actuals agenda memorandum reports combined General Fund ending balances of $170,138,524.58 (including $32,331,399.61 unrestricted), a $91,492,077.64 decrease during 2025–26, and a $140,119,535.95 contribution to restricted programs. It says the close is $16,380,456.57 above the prior projection and becomes the 2026–27 starting balance; the item recommends adoption, so this alert reports the stated year-end figures, not a confirmed Board vote.
