East Bay Innovation Academy seeks formal end to high-school grades

What happened
East Bay Innovation Academy is asking OUSD to amend its charter from grades 6–12 to grades 6–8; an initial public hearing is scheduled for November 6, 2026. The school had already suspended grades 9–12 for 2026–27 without board approval, and its presentation projects enrollment targets falling from 770 to 330 and 12 fewer teaching positions (document 97561).
Why it matters to families
The proposal would formalize the end of EBIA’s high-school program and substantially shrink its planned enrollment and staffing. The board hearing is an initial review, not an approval; if approved, the charter change would take effect immediately.
The evidence
OUSD’s board memorandum says EBIA’s governing board suspended grades 9–12 for 2026–27, although the charter authorized grades 6–12 through June 30, 2027, and that the district issued a Notice of Concern because the change occurred without prior OUSD approval. EBIA’s request is to serve grades 6–8 only. Its presentation projects enrollment targets decreasing from 770 to 330 and a reduction of 12 teaching positions. Sources: documents 97559 and 97561.
