How is Steamboat Springs School District paid for?

State school-finance formula plus local property tax, with about $2.7 million of savings used in the 2026-27 budget

Steamboat Springs School District RE-2 serves Steamboat Springs and nearby communities in Routt County, Colorado, with about 2,500 students. Most operating money comes from the state school-finance formula and local property taxes. A five-member elected Board of Education adopts the budget, sets policy and hires the superintendent, Kristin Drury (since summer 2026).

2026-27 budget

Approved June 22, 2026; uses about $2.7 million of saved fund balance to cover the gap between spending and income.

Reserve level

Staff said in December 2025 that the district expected about $14 million, roughly 30%, in reserve at the end of June 2026.

New funding

The district was reclassified as rural in August 2026, which adds per-pupil funding through fiscal year 2032.

State grant

A $420,592 a year School Health Professional Grant for three years pays for two social worker positions.

The collected records do not give total 2026-27 spending or enrollment for the year, and the Initiative 195 / Amendment 87 election result is not yet known.
