Rafael Hernández Dual Language School
The Boston School Committee's July 8, 2026 grants list includes a new $915,000.00 award for FY27 — the 'Friends of the Hernández De-Leading Project Grant', requested by principal Danielle Costello and categorised as a facility improvement for the Rafael Hernández School. This is money arriving on top of the school's budget rather than a reallocation inside it: the FY27 allocation table records $103,471 of external funding for Hernández, all of it Title I, with nothing under either IDEA or Other Grants.
Monomoy Regional School District
At a joint meeting, Harwich officials proposed resetting the Monomoy Regional School District operating assessment formula to the original 72/28 enrollment-based split and adopting a 50/50 capital cost share, citing exhausted levy capacity. Chatham officials pushed back, noting the current formula already requires them to contribute more than their enrollment share. Both towns and the School Committee agreed to form a joint regional agreement working group to review funding formulas and long-term facility/enrollment planning.
A packet for the June 24, 2026 School Committee meeting outlines five alternative options, each totaling $205,000 in budget reductions, to address a budget gap per the Mayor's directive. Proposed cuts include eliminating the Assistant Facilities Director position ($130K), reducing Homeless Transportation funding by $50K, cutting Electricity budget by $25-30K, eliminating Lunch Monitor funding ($159K, shifting to revolving fund), and reducing costs tied to a resignation and a retirement.
The June 24, 2026 agenda includes a discussion item regarding the potential need for a town Proposition 2½ override in FY28 to fund the school budget.
The committee accepted $332,180 in additional Chapter 70 aid, allocated $140,000 to secondary education and $192,180 districtwide, and discussed restoring a K-12 arts and activities director.
The draft creates separate reserves for facilities, special education, operations and transition, retiree benefits, pensions, and unemployment to address enrollment changes, out-of-district costs, and possible contract reduction or loss.
Community Day Charter Public School
After Finance Committee review, the June 17 agenda scheduled board votes on the proposed FY27 budget and FY26 surplus.
After using $651,949 of certified FY25 Excess and Deficiency to eliminate the FY25 General Fund shortfall, the Committee approved an equal FY26 budget increase required by DESE.
